Welcome to our website for the North East Strategy
The North East Strategy is important for everyone who lives, works, studies or does business in North East England.
It will set out how we will become a more sustainable region by supporting businesses, improving skills levels, and agreeing the location of future housing and other physical developments as well as transport links. It will also describe how we plan to tackle climate change and reduce our carbon emissions.
As we are all too aware, this strategy is being taken forward at a time of economic uncertainty, when it feels difficult to plan for the future. However, we must make sure that the North East is in a position to respond quickly to the upturn and to understand the longer-term implications of the recession and how it has affected areas such as public-sector spending and private-sector investment levels. We need to be smarter, and do more with less.
We need to start planning for our future and take action now, and the North East Strategy will enable us to do this.
Local authorities in the region and One North East have a joint statutory responsibility to produce a North East Strategy. All regional partners’ views, input and support in delivery will be critical to its success.
This website outlines some of the preliminary work that we have done so far. It also looks at the informal and formal stages of work we plan to do to develop the North East Strategy.
It will be updated with the latest activity in the development of the North East Strategy, and would welcome your views and comments as we progress.
Thank you for your interest.
